AMD with Windows 10

I have an old machine which runs Windows 10 and every time I do a clean install, the AMD Radeon Driver installation process gives me headches. It is bound to never go through as intended.

So, here's a note to future me on how to navigate this jumbled mess of a process.

  1. Create a restore point.
  2. Download and extract the AMD Radeon driver file from the official source (~400MB in size) and the Driver Cleanup utility from AMD or DDU.
  3. After a fresh install, run windows update. Log into safe mode with no networking and run DDU.
  4. Double check if the AMD folder from within the program-files has been nuked.
  5. Restart when prompted and boot into normal Windows.
  6. Open the AMD driver installation file and do a 'full' install. Uncheck the "factory reset" option.
  7. If this fails and Windows decides to blue screen you, repeat Step 3.
  8. Wait for the process to complete as the screen flickers a couple of times. Finish installation and check the device manager for a new entry within "Display Adapters".

You are, hopefully, done. Thanks Windows.
